The End. (But Not Really!)
Dear Undergrounders,
When we first began broadcasting The Catholic Underground as a podcast in 2006, the digital landscape of faith and media was largely unpopulated. It was into that space two newly ordained clergy and their seminary classmates shared conversations that broached topics ranging from emerging technology and design and their intersection with the morals, practices, and teachings of the Catholic Faith. It’s our hope that these shared discussions can continue with those who have found our programs to be helpful. As the Catholic media market is now super-saturated with content, our crew has discerned that it’s best to take a break and ask how The Holy Spirit is calling us to be present on the digital continent. This includes our board’s decision to discontinue our present long-form radio and television presence.
It is very difficult to leave the air of our friends at Catholic TV, Catholic Faith Network, Catholic Life Television, and Catholic Community Radio who have been so generous and patient with our production schedule and evolution as a broadcast. Know that we are indebted to them for helping to expand our reach and deepen our commitment to broadcasting The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
While the crew has changed over the years, the desire to bring excellence in communicating the joy of our Catholic Faith in an approachable manner has always been our highest priority.
Thank you for letting us onto the internet enabled devices that we could only dream about 15 years ago! To our Undergrounders, many of whom have been with us from the very beginning, we’re not going anywhere but we are hitting pause on our production. Like the missionaries of the Early Church, we look forward to where God sends us next on this rapidly developing digital continent.
May Our Blessed Mother, St. Clare, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Venerable Archbishop Sheen, and all our patrons pray for us and those ears who have yet to hear the voice of Jesus!
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Chris Decker and the Catholic Underground Crew
